Perfect Place to stay at and discover Lisbon
in the beginning of this June my sister and I visited Lisbon for a week. We didn't book an accomodation until rather late but were very, very lucky to find this wonderful and lovely apartment.
We wanted something right in the middle of the city but not crazy expensive and found this last minute.
We actually had asked Paulo, the owner, about a different one, which had already been booked. He then told us about this one which had just been redone and which he hadn't even put online yet.
So we just booked it and it absolutely was the right thing to do.
Paulo was very welcoming and nice. He arranged everything with us ahead via email. He also sent us a text with interesting things and places to know.
And the price even included a pickup from the airport. Paulo picked us up himself and turned the ride into a city tour showing us all kinds of places and spots and explaning lot's about the city and its history. He even showed us some nice restaurants and bakeries close to the apartment.
The apartment is right in the middle of bairro alto, which means high part of the city, because it is built on a hill and depending on where you are going, you're going up or down. But that is basically what walking in Lisbon is like, either up or down.
If you leave the apartment to your right you'll be at the rua da rosa, I think it was called.
If you walk up or down that street you can get to many nice restaurants, cafés and bars, which are all very close.
The apartment has just been renovated and we were the first ones to try it. We loved the interior, the furniture and colors. I always find it stupid when people write that but it looks exactly like it does on the pictures.
There are two beds, one big enough for a couple and the other one for another person. Also there are two bathrooms, one with a shower. There is a kitchen, a living room with a TV and an eating area.
The kitchen is small but has everything one needs to cook. We only used it for making breakfast and small snacks because we were basically out all day and wanted to discover the various portuguese dishes and drinks at night. However if you want to cook a meal, you can find everything there.
Also right outside the door a few metres either to the left or the right there are small shops to buy food in. We would always buy fresh fruit in the shop on the corner to the right and our bread in the bakery right next to it. However, I really recommend the bakery which you can find if you walk all the way down the rua da rosa and turn left, into the rua do loreto. Very good little sweet somethings, especially the pastel de nata. One of the things one has to try when in Lisbon.
Also make sure to plan day trips to Sintra and maybe to Cascais.
All in all I have to say Lisbon is a wonderful city. We were sad to leave after those 7 days which were not enough! There are just so many places to discover and to see.
Also the portuguese are all very lovely and kind people who are unbelievably helpful and nice. I am planning on going back there next year again. And I know that I w ill definetly book this apartment again, if it is avaiable.
